May Portrait of a Graduate

In the Spring of 2019, the London City School District published its Portrait of a Graduate, which highlights the key skills and attitudes necessary for district graduates to have success in college and careers. Our district uses the Portrait of a Graduate to help design meaningful teaching and learning experiences for our students.

The following students were recognized during the May Regular Board of Education meeting for substantially demonstrating the district’s Portrait of a Graduate. Congratulations to each of these students!

Jon David Laney (5th-grade) - London Elementary School

This month's Portrait of a Graduate & Presidential Academic Award recipient, Jon David, stands out for both his achievements and his character. He genuinely takes an interest in others, consistently offers help, and maintains a positive, upbeat attitude. Jon David is always seen with a smile, being sympathetic, alert, and selfless. Every school day, he shows positive social interactions, brings an eager and positive approach to all situations, and portrays good manners. Always ready to take on new challenges, he earned “Top Gun” honors in the DARE program and even wrote a motivational, inspiring commitment speech.

Jon David doesn’t just strive for his own success—he encourages those around him to excel as well. Considerate, attentive, modest, and compassionate, he leads by example in everything he does. An active student, he plays baseball, basketball, and football, and also enjoys fishing and skiing on water and downhill. Always willing to give a helping hand, Jon David is currently helping his grandpa build a cabin. A fierce and loyal brother to three siblings, he often is seen giving them attention and hugs. He serves as an L.E.S. office helper and maintains straight A’s, demonstrating both responsibility and dedication to our school.

Looking ahead, Jon David hopes to pursue a future in the military or the NFL. He lives by the motto, “Do good, be good, dominate,” which to him means doing well in school, making good choices, and staying grounded in his faith.

Riot Mosely (5th) - London Unlimited

Riot Mosley is our London Unlimited Portrait of a Graduate for this month. Currently in 5th grade, Riot has been part of the London Unlimited program throughout his entire educational journey. He is very interested in the world around him, especially when it comes to bugs and science, and enjoys collecting insects and creating habitats for them. Riot loves playing Roblox. He enjoys traveling, especially to Tennessee, loves animals, and is known as a soft-spoken, caring individual who values family and helps others whenever he can. His favorite foods are biscuits and gravy and nachos; his favorite color is red (Go Raiders). As Riot shares, “I want to be a bug scientist when I grow up.”

Riot demonstrates the skills and attitudes of a Portrait of a Graduate. He is future-ready, an effective communicator, and a critical, creative thinker and problem-solver. Riot shows respect for himself and others, remains flexible and adaptable, and continues to grow as a learner who is appropriately skilled in literacy, numeracy, and technology.

Tristan Raub (12th) - London High School

Tristiana Raub, a senior at London High School, has been named a London City Schools Portrait of a Graduate. Tristiana has demonstrated the qualities of a Portrait of a Graduate throughout her high school career through her exceptional achievements in the arts, her leadership, and her commitment to serving others.
