September POG Honorees

In the Spring of 2019, the London City School District published its Portrait of a Graduate, which highlights the key skills and attitudes necessary for district graduates to have success in college and careers. Our district uses the Portrait of a Graduate to help design meaningful teaching and learning experiences for our students.

The following students were recognized during the September Regular Board of Education meeting for substantially demonstrating the district’s Portrait of a Graduate. Congratulations to each of these students!

Trey Wolverton (3rd Grade) - London Elementary School

Trey Wolverton is a great example of what it means to be “Future Ready” at London City Schools! Trey was accelerated in math this year, which shows how much of a critical thinker and problem solver he is. He doesn’t back down from tough challenges and works hard to figure things out.

Trey is also a good friend and strong communicator. He encourages his classmates, is fun to be around, and always makes sure others feel included—whether in class or on the field as a tremendous athlete.

He’s consistently respectful to both kids and adults, showing kindness and setting a positive example for others. Trey’s ability to adapt to new situations, like moving up in math, shows how flexible and adaptable he can be.

Most of all, Trey brings humor and positivity into every day. Growing up as the only boy in a house with three sisters, he’s clearly mastered patience and a good sense of humor—two skills that will definitely take him far!

Trey truly shows the Portrait of a Graduate in action, and we are proud to recognize him.

Tyler Salyers (8th) - London Middle School

LMS is honored to recognize Tyler Salyers as a student who exemplifies the Portrait of a Graduate qualities here at London City Schools. Tyler is a young man whose actions and character reflect leadership, responsibility, and kindness, both in and out of the classroom.

Tyler has been an active member of the Boy Scouts of America for three years, currently serving as the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, the second-in-command under the scout master. Through this role, he has shown himself to be an effective communicator, guiding younger scouts, organizing tasks, and helping his troop succeed in service projects such as keeping the grounds clean at the South Vienna Corn Festival. As he continues to work toward his Star and Life ranks, his long-term goal is to achieve his Eagle rank in high school—a distinction that would make him the first Eagle Scout in his family. This path demonstrates both his flexibility and adaptability as well as his ability to set long-range goals and steadily work toward them.

Athletics are another area where Tyler shines. He plays football and aspires to earn the Tri-Red Award by participating in football, wrestling, and track and field. In sports, Tyler has learned to be a critical and creative problem-solver, whether on the field, the mat, or the track, while also building teamwork and resilience. His commitment to athletics reflects his determination and his willingness to encourage those around him.

Academically, Tyler has consistently proven himself to be appropriately skilled in literacy, numeracy, and technology. He has maintained a spot on the honor roll throughout both sixth and seventh Grade and has set his sights on continuing that success during his eighth-grade year. Tyler has also been recognized as Student of the Month in both elementary and middle school, and he earned the distinction of being one of the “Kids to Know” featured by the School Resource Officer in the LMS weekly newsletter. These honors, combined with his American Citizenship Award in the 5th Grade, speak to his character and his commitment to always being respectful to himself and others. Just as important, Tyler takes pride in his spotless conduct record—he has never received a detention, suspension, or disciplinary action of any kind.

Looking ahead, Tyler plans to join the military after graduation, but before that, he intends to help his father on the family farm. His sense of duty to both family and country speaks to his adaptability and responsibility as he prepares for life beyond high school.

Tyler’s teachers describe him as a student who brings people together and uplifts those around him. Mrs. Angela Hunter, 7th Grade ELA teacher, praises Tyler for his collaboration and kindness, recalling how he encouraged classmates during iReady competitions by writing motivational messages on the whiteboard—an example of his ability to communicate effectively and inspire others. Mr. Jason Ulery, 7th Grade Science teacher, highlights Tyler’s strong work ethic and dedication to achieving high standards while still being willing to help his peers, modeling both respect and collaboration. Mrs. Kirsten Witt, 6th Grade Social Studies teacher, adds that Tyler is personable, respectful, and always ready to guide classmates toward success, noting that his presence in the classroom was steady and uplifting.

Taken together, these accomplishments and qualities paint a portrait of a student who embodies our district’s vision of a Future-Ready Graduate—a young leader who is respectful, academically driven, service-minded, adaptable, and prepared to take on future challenges.
