October Portrait of a Graduate Honorees!

In the Spring of 2019, the London City School District published its Portrait of a Graduate, which highlights the key skills and attitudes necessary for district graduates to have success in college and careers. Our district uses the Portrait of a Graduate to help design meaningful teaching and learning experiences for our students.

The following students were recognized during the October Regular Board of Education meeting for substantially demonstrating the district’s Portrait of a Graduate. Congratulations to each of these students!

Kelsey Mack (2nd Grade) - London Elementary School

Kelsey Mack, a second grader, shines as a young student who truly embodies the qualities of a "Portrait of a Graduate." Even at her age, she demonstrates remarkable responsibility, showing up to school each day with a positive attitude and a readiness to learn. Whether it's completing her assignments with care or helping classmates who are struggling, Kelsey shows a maturity beyond her years. She takes pride in her work, demonstrating strong communication skills as she collaborates with her peers and confidently shares her thoughts during class discussions.

Kelsey’s second-grade teacher Mrs. Balzer said, “ Kelsey is one of the most focused and dedicated students I've ever had. For a second-grader, that is quite an accomplishment! She loves to learn and that is very clear in the work that she does. Kelsey also loves to help people and always wants to make sure people are taken care of in the classroom. It is no surprise to me that Kelsey was chosen as LES's portrait of a graduate.”

Kelsey also displays a sense of curiosity and creativity, always eager to explore new ideas and challenges. She approaches problems with a growth mindset, understanding that making mistakes is part of the learning process. Whether she's working on a class project or participating in a group activity, Kelsey's collaborative spirit and leadership make her stand out. Most recently, Kelsey held a lemonade stand and donated her profits of $200 to London Elementary School Raider Rack. Her empathy and respect for others make her a valued friend and classmate, creating a positive environment where everyone feels included. Kelsey’s actions every day reflect the qualities of a well-rounded and thoughtful graduate in the making.

Brynlee Wolverton (7th Grade) - London Middle School

I am pleased to write this portrait of Brynlee, a current 7th grader who exemplifies all the qualities of a well-rounded and accomplished student. She embodies the school's core values, demonstrating strong communication skills, critical and creative thinking, and effective problem-solving. Brynlee consistently shows genuine respect for herself and others, and her flexibility and adaptability enable her to balance a diverse range of activities while excelling in literacy, numeracy, and technology.

Academically, Brynlee has been on the merit honor roll since the 6th grade and is on track to maintain this achievement by the end of the current school quarter.

Since her early years at London City School, Brynlee has been a familiar face at sporting events, assisting her father, the school's athletic director, with various tasks to ensure these events are well-prepared, supported, and successful for her fellow students. Her dedication and involvement highlight her strong sense of responsibility, community, and school spirit.

A role model for her three younger siblings, Brynlee is a caring and helpful young lady who actively participates in 4-H. Her commitment to livestock judging and skill-a-thon is evident, as she has been showing pigs at both county and state levels since age 2. From March through August, she dedicates time daily to care for and walk her animals twice a day.

When she is not 4-H-ing, Brynlee is on the volleyball court, showcasing her athletic talents. In addition to playing on her school team, she has also been a member of a club volleyball team for five years.

Beyond her academic and athletic pursuits, Brynlee enjoys participating in her church youth group, attending athletic events, swimming, fishing, babysitting, and spending quality time with friends and family.

Brynlee's ability to balance her many interests, excel academically, and contribute to her school community makes her a standout student who represents the best qualities we aim to foster in our young people — an accurate Portrait of a Graduate.
