May Portrait of a Graduate Honorees

In the Spring of 2019, the London City School District published its Portrait of a Graduate, highlighting the essential skills and attitudes necessary for district graduates to succeed in college and careers. Our district uses the Portrait of a Graduate to help design meaningful teaching and learning experiences for our students.

The following students were recognized during the May Regular Board of Education meeting for substantially demonstrating the district’s Portrait of a Graduate. Congratulations to each of these students!

Kiandra “Kiki” Oiler - London Elementary School (5th Grade)

Kiki is the perfect portrait of a graduate. She is an exceptional student who excels in academics but also possesses the essential skills required to be successful in life. Kiki has been an office helper this year and shows skills as a natural leader and consistently demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills. She is always willing to help others and approaches challenges with a positive attitude and a growth mindset. Kiki is also highly creative and uses her imagination to come up with innovative solutions to problems. She is confident and not afraid to be herself. Her dedication to her education and her desire to learn make her a role model for her peers. Academically, she has tested at a 7th-grade level on both reading and math iReady diagnostics,  Most recently she competed in the Madison County Math Bee, finishing in the top 10. Kiki's strong character, work ethic, and willingness to learn are qualities that will serve her well throughout her life.

Allie Webb - London Middle School (6th Grade)

I would like to recognize the following LMS student Allie Webb who exemplifies the district's goal of having future-ready students.

Allie is an outstanding 6th-grade young lady who is mature beyond her years. In her first year at the middle school, Allie was accepted to the LMS student council, where she exemplifies the "We, before me" and "We do things on purpose" district core values by supporting the school and community by having respect for others. The values are evident as she participated in transforming the courtyard outside the LMS cafeteria by cleaning and planting flowers, making the area welcoming and beautiful for students walking by or choosing to eat in that area for lunch. Similarly, she extended the same courtesy to the London Health and Rehab Center residents by cleaning the residents' courtyard and putting flowers in planters. Additional community and school engagement would include food and shoe box drives for students and the London Help House, to name a few.

Academically, Allie has held a gifted designation in ELA since elementary school and currently takes honors math and ELA as a 6th grader. Additionally, Allie has been a straight-A student since elementary and continues that trend as a 6th grade earning her merit honors and all-quarter incentives through the LMS PBIS program.

Beyond the classroom, Allie has actively participated in the Ohio STEM Learning Network Design Challenge as a 5th and 6th grader. These design challenges are activities or competitions students join in solving real-world problems. Students engage in creative problem-solving through the challenge, boosting skills like collaboration and grit. As well as critical and creative thinking, becoming an effective communicator, being flexible and adaptable, and being skilled in literacy, numeracy, and technology. This year the LMS team won the Central Ohio Regional Hub, earning them a spot in the state competition that ended in a first-ever state win for the LMS design team.

Beyond her academic studies, Allie participates in club softball, volleyball, and basketball and will represent LMS in these sports next year as a 7th-grade student-athlete.

Ultimately, Allie is an outstanding 6th-grade student who is mature beyond her years. She only scratches the surface of what she will accomplish before leaving middle school. But most importantly, Allie exemplifies the district's goal of having future-ready students.

Adonna Carr - London Unlimited (12th Grade)

Adonna Carr, a senior student, has faced significant obstacles during her academic journey. Despite these challenges, she has managed to overcome them with resilience and determination.

Adonna had fallen behind in some of her courses due to personal circumstances, including the tragic death of her mother. However, she refused to let this setback hold her back, and instead, she sought out resources to help her catch up. She turned to the London Unlimited program, which provided her with the necessary support and guidance to get back on track and graduate with her class.

Following graduation, Adonna will pursue her passion for child psychology at Central State University, where she will develop her knowledge and skills in this field.

Adonna has also been actively involved in the Ohio Means Jobs Readiness program. She has been interning with Mrs. Katie Miller at the Elementary School, where she has been making a significant impact. This program has helped her develop essential skills that will benefit her in her future career.

Adonna Carr is a remarkable individual who has overcome significant obstacles to achieve her academic and career goals. Her commitment to personal growth and community involvement is truly inspiring, and she is a shining example of what can be achieved with hard work and determination.
