goal 5

August 31st was a particularly good day for the London City School District. On this day, the district was informed that it was awarded two grants totally almost $100,000 to support district programs.

The first grant awarded is a School Safety and Security Grant from the Bureau of Workers Compensation in the amount of $40,000. These funds will be used to support the renovation of the entranceways to London Elementary School and London High School in order to make each more secure. The project will include a complete remodel of the high school entrance and upgrades to doors and the welcome window in the elementary school. Each school, including London Middle School, will also be fitted with updated access controls.

The second grant is a $56,163 Broadband Connectivity Grant awarded by the State of Ohio to greatly expand public wireless access on district property including the district athletic facilities. The grant is being used not just to support campus visitors attending events, but also to eventually establish hot spots for students to visit outside of school hours.

Both grant awards are consistent with the district’s goal of ensuring effective fiscal stewardship of district resources.
