Mrs. Bonnie McCormick is a portrait of an educator who prepares students to be future-ready. As a Career Exploration teacher at London Middle School, she consistently demonstrates the qualities of effective communication, relationship-building, flexibility, integrity, and lifelong learning.
Mrs. McCormick creates hands-on learning experiences that connect classroom learning to the real world. Through mock interviews with local business professionals, students practice employability skills such as eye contact, communication, posture, and professionalism. These authentic experiences build confidence while teaching the importance of preparation, reflection, and growth.
Relationship-building is central to her teaching. She partners with community members and local businesses to enrich student learning. Students explore careers through guest speakers, including HVAC professionals and law enforcement officers, and experience field learning at places like the Anthony-Thomas Candy Company manufacturing facility. These opportunities help students understand teamwork, communication, and real-world career pathways.
Mrs. McCormick also demonstrates flexibility and creativity through engaging, active learning. Students participate in mock trials while exploring law and public safety careers, work through assembly-line activities to understand manufacturing, and engage in human services and cosmetology experiences. These lessons strengthen critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration while keeping students highly engaged.
Beyond the classroom, Mrs. McCormick models integrity and service. As a United States Coast Guard veteran, she exemplifies honor, leadership, and dedication. Her experiences provide students with a powerful example of responsibility, perseverance, and service to others.
She is also deeply committed to student leadership. Through the Lead4Change program, students organized service projects and fundraisers that raised over $4,370 for both the school and the local community. These efforts supported items such as recess equipment for London Middle School and supplies for children in the Madison County foster care system. Students learned leadership, empathy, teamwork, and the impact of giving back.
