The London City School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Penny Stires as the next Principal at London High School, pending approval by the Board of Education. A proud London High School graduate and current London resident, Mrs. Stires brings more than 20 years of educational leadership experience back to her home community. She currently serves as Principal at Hastings Middle School in Upper Arlington City Schools. She has previously served as both a high school and middle school principal in Colorado, as well as an assistant principal and principal in Ohio.
Mrs. Stires began her career in education as a special education teacher before transitioning into school administration. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education from The Ohio State University and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Wright State University. She maintains professional principal licensure in both Ohio and Colorado.
After accepting the position, Mrs. Stires shared, “When we would come back home and drive past LHS, or when I would run the steps at the stadium, I would say to myself, ‘I’m going to lead there one day.’ I can’t believe I now have the opportunity to serve the London community by doing what I love with the people who live in my backyard.”
Mrs. Stires was one of several finalists who participated in a comprehensive interview process involving students, parents, faculty and staff, school and district administrators, and members of the Board of Education. Her proven track record of improving student achievement outcomes, depth of experience at both the middle and high school levels, and ability to lead school improvement efforts while building a positive, student-centered culture distinguished her as the ideal candidate to lead London High School.
Mrs. Stires will officially begin her duties on August 1st and will work several days during the summer to ensure a smooth and successful transition.
