London Middle School recently welcomed Ohio Lt. Governor Jim Tressel on March 3 as part of the statewide Team Tressel Fitness Challenge, an initiative designed to encourage students to build lifelong healthy habits. Fifth-grade students from London Elementary also joined the event, allowing younger students to participate alongside middle school students while learning about leadership, goal-setting, and healthy living. During his visit, Lt. Governor Tressel spoke with students about the importance of staying active, eating nutritious foods, and getting enough sleep. He emphasized that these three habits can help young people succeed both in school and in life.
The Team Tressel Fitness Challenge blends physical activity, education, reflection, and personal goal-setting into a structured experience for students in grades 5 through 8. The program focuses on five key areas of healthy living: cardio, strength, flexibility, nutrition, and sleep. Students are encouraged to set personal goals, work toward improving their daily habits, and reflect on their progress throughout the challenge. In addition to exercise and healthy eating, the program encourages students to get at least nine hours of sleep each night and to support their mental health through practices such as gratitude.
During the visit, Lt. Governor Tressel led student volunteers through a series of physical exercises, energizing the crowd and motivating students to stay active and committed to building healthy routines. The event provided a unique and memorable opportunity for London students to engage directly with the Lt. Governor while reinforcing the importance of habits that promote overall well-being. London City Schools is proud to participate in the Team Tressel Fitness Challenge and to support programs that encourage students to develop healthy lifestyles that will benefit them both now and in the future.
