In the Spring of 2019, the London City School District published its Portrait of a Graduate, which highlights the key skills and attitudes necessary for district graduates to have success in college and careers. Our district uses the Portrait of a Graduate to help design meaningful teaching and learning experiences for our students. Similarly, during the Spring of 2022, the London City School District worked to identify and publish the most valued skills and dispositions that educators should demonstrate daily to help prepare our students to be future-ready. These skills include:
Effective Communication,
Focused on Relationship-Building,
Being Flexible and Adaptable,
Demonstrating High Integrity; and,
Being a role model for Life-Long Learning.
Now entering his second year with the district, Eli DeTemple has already made a significant impact on students through both his teaching and coaching roles.
Eli teaches Physical Science and Physics, in addition to offering science courses through London Unlimited. Beyond the classroom, he invests in students’ growth and success as the girls’ golf coach, girls’ wrestling coach, and track and field coach. His dedication extends far beyond academics, as he models perseverance, teamwork, and leadership for students across multiple disciplines.
Most recently, Eli was selected to serve as an Argonaut with Jason Learning, an opportunity that allowed him to travel alongside a London City Schools student to Portland, Oregon, for an Expedition to the Pacific Northwest in June. During this authentic, real-world STEM experience, Eli and the Argonaut team engaged in design thinking, research project development, and place-based problem solving. He explored how advancements such as artificial intelligence are shaping conservation efforts and studied how the dynamic landscape of the Columbia River Gorge influences the ways organisms live and thrive. Eli’s role in this expedition not only strengthened his own expertise but also brought new excitement and knowledge back to the district, where he continues to inspire students with real-world applications of science and innovation.
Eli DeTemple’s commitment to education, his leadership in athletics, and his passion for connecting students to authentic learning experiences make him an outstanding candidate for the Portrait of an Educator.
