This spring, 3rd-grade students at London City Schools participated in ChickQuest, a hands-on science enrichment program from Science Alive 4-H that brought STEM learning to life. Students used science, technology, engineering, and math skills to explore the life cycle of a chicken from embryo to hatchling. They monitored fertilized eggs in classroom incubators, tracked temperature and humidity, and recorded daily observations. Along the way, they practiced scientific inquiry, problem-solving, and collaboration, all while developing a deeper understanding of life science.
The highlight of the program came when the chicks began to hatch, filling classrooms with excitement and wonder. Students witnessed the birth of tiny, fluffy chicks and took responsibility for their care, learning about empathy and the needs of living things. ChickQuest provided a meaningful, real-world learning experience that not only supported academic growth but also inspired curiosity and a lasting interest in science.
