Students in London High School’s Music Appreciation 2 class recently received statewide recognition through Wright State University’s “Silver Melted Into Sound” Poetry Competition. As part of their final Project-Based Learning assignment, students explored the connection between music and poetry by writing in various forms, including Haiku, Limerick, Villanelle, and Sonnet. When the opportunity arose to participate in the Wright State competition, where students listen to a concert band piece and respond with poetry, the entire class submitted entries.
We are proud to announce that Ethan Guisinger, Wyatt Adams-Jette, Caiden Nelson, and Christian Coffey were selected as winners in the high school division. Their poetry earned them a cash prize, will be published on the Wright State Music Department website, and will be featured in the program for the university’s upcoming concert. Even more exciting, their poems are being sent directly to Katahj Copley, the composer whose music inspired the competition, so he can read their creative responses. Congratulations to these talented students for turning music into meaningful words and representing London High School with excellence!
