School Safety

A student from LHS was involved in an incident this morning when they were struck by the side mirror of a passing car while crossing Elm Street in the designated crosswalk before school. District administrators and emergency personnel were on site within moments of the incident. Although the student was alert and ambulatory, they were transported to Madison Health for further assessment. Fortunately, the injuries were minor, and the student was subsequently treated and released.

Drivers must adhere to posted school zone speed limits and exercise heightened awareness, particularly in the vicinity of crosswalks. Students are reminded to activate the crosswalk button, which functions similarly to a cell phone and responds to touch by a bare hand, and to exercise caution by checking for oncoming traffic before entering the crosswalk.

To enhance safety, LCS recently collaborated with the City of London and Ohio Edison to acquire and install an additional street light near the crosswalk. This measure aims to provide additional illumination during the morning hours, further ensuring the safety of students. The installation of the new street light is anticipated within the next few weeks.
