The London City School District is proud to announce the successful completion of professional development workshops by its staff aimed at enriching classroom instruction through innovative teaching methodologies. The workshops, conducted by renowned experts in the field of education, focused on various aspects such as project-based learning (PBL), learner profiles, design and pitch, and incorporating gardening into the curriculum.
During the workshops, LCS staff members were provided with key points and a framework to implement in their classrooms. They engaged in interactive sessions that included sharing examples and resources, allowing them to gain practical insights and strategies for effective implementation. The participants were encouraged to commit to shifting an upcoming lesson and integrating PBL into a unit, with a focus on developing learner profiles.
The workshops also featured sessions that guided the staff in planning a design project for their classrooms. Participants brought their ideas and worked collaboratively to create design projects that would be implemented in the last quarter of the academic year, integrating persuasive arguments, business models, and real-world problem-solving skills through the Design & Pitch approach.
In addition, the workshops included training on JASON Learning, a renowned online platform that provides STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) curriculum resources for educators. LCS staff participated in an orientation to JASON, learning about its philosophy, curricula, and available resources. They also gained insights into how to access standard alignments and identify the curriculum collections that best suit their needs. The training was designed to onboard educators and students to the JASON platform effectively, making it accessible for all content areas and grade levels.
