Goal 2

If we have learned anything about education during the last year, it's that in-person learning matters. Because of the inconsistency of on-campus opportunities that have occurred during the pandemic, London City Schools is proactively planning a comprehensive summer intervention program to help students with learning loss.

LCS is currently planning to provide multiple learning opportunities for students in all grades. For elementary and middle school students, the district is planning a series of three 2 week mini sessions. Each session will focus on a different theme and utilize an intervention-based curriculum to assist students with lessons tailored to their specific needs. Lessons will focus primarily on reading and math but would also include weekly Project Based Learning activities. Daily sessions would begin each day at 8 am with breakfast and conclude at 11:30 pm. Transportation will be provided, and students will be given a sack lunch to enjoy at home before leaving for the day. Finally, students will have access to a district technology device to complete online assignments at home.

Session 1 is scheduled to take place June 6th - 18th, while session 2 from June 21 - July 2nd. The final session is planned for July 12th - 23rd. London students may attend as many sessions as they would like. Students will receive a separate digital and physical badge for attending each session, a t-shirt for attending two or more sessions, and be eligible for raffle prizes simply for participating.

London High School Students will be eligible to participate in the London Unlimited program for initial and recovery credits from June 7th until July 23rd. This program uses virtual instruction using the district’s School PLP curriculum facilitated by LHS teachers to help all students. Students may work at their own pace and complete coursework early.  Although London Unlimited coursework will be primarily completed online, some on-campus sessions will be required. LHS will also offer summer physical education to interested students.

The number of courses offered and class size will depend on student and family interests. Parents are asked to complete a quick interest survey if they consider having their child participate in one or multiple courses this summer. More information regarding summer programs will be released in March.
