The London City School District is proud to announce the recommendation of Mr. Joe Johnson as the new Varsity Boys Basketball Coach for the London Red Raiders, pending official approval by the Board of Education.
A proud London High School graduate and long-time educator at London Elementary School, Coach Johnson brings deep community roots and a wealth of experience to the role. He has previously served as Assistant and Junior Varsity Coach for the Red Raiders’ girls basketball program and was a long-time Assistant Coach for the Red Raider football team.
Most recently, he has focused on developing the boys’ program at the youth and middle school levels, helping to lay a strong foundation for future success. From 2022 to 2024, Coach Johnson led his middle school teams to an extraordinary combined record of 36-1, capturing back-to-back Central Buckeye Conference Championships.
Now taking the reins of the very program he once led as a senior captain, Coach Johnson steps into his new role at a promising time. The Red Raiders have shown steady growth, improving both overall and conference records over the past five seasons. The team finished second in the competitive Kenton Trail Division last year, and expectations remain high for continued progress under Johnson’s leadership.
Joe and his wife, Alison, are long-time London residents, and their children have either graduated from or currently attend London City Schools. In recognition of his outstanding contributions in the classroom, Mr. Johnson was honored as the District’s Portrait of an Educator by the Board of Education in February.
He is expected to meet with the team early next week to finalize summer training schedules.
