Last summer, the “This is My Town” Summer Learning Camp for K-5 students highlighted career readiness skills along with academic skills to keep students engaged and learning over the summer. To develop lessons on career readiness for elementary students we looked to our city of London. London has a variety of careers and small businesses that make this town unique. Teachers created mini field trips each day for students to learn and experience their careers. While on the field trips, students were able to ask questions of the community members, experience the business in action, and engage with each other in their learning. Academic learning was completed in small groups focusing on the priority learning standards in Reading and Math.
LCS is currently planning Summer Learning Camp K-8 for June 2023! Learning will continue to focus on reading and math essential skills. The camp will also include STEM project-based learning which will include learning outside of the classroom. LCS will offer a summer learning camp from June 5, 2023, to June 29, 2023. Sessions will be Monday through Thursday from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Transportation will be provided as well as a grab-and-go breakfast and sack lunch to take home.
