On Friday, August 22nd, London Elementary School Kindergarten teacher Wendy Parks was recognized by local radio station WCOL as the grand prize winner in its annual Back-to-School Contest, which highlights outstanding educators. Parent Katie Jones nominated Mrs. Parks, describing her as “our very own Miss Honey” from Roald Dahl’s beloved classic Matilda. (You can hear the moment the award was announced beginning at 2:25 in this audio clip.)
Mrs. Parks has been part of London City Schools since 2015, teaching both Preschool and Kindergarten. Fittingly, she also leads the elementary school’s Sunshine Committee, a group dedicated to spreading positivity and support throughout the building. Known for her ever-present smile, Mrs. Parks truly embodies the district’s Portrait of an Educator and was formally recognized by the Board of Education in December 2024 for her many contributions.
Congratulations, Mrs. Parks!
