When news broke that schools would be closed for a long period of time, members of the London community reached out to ask how they could help. LCS loves when the community offers support but with social distancing and many other concerns, how could we receive it? Kids are staying home and have lots of time on their hands. Even in the best of circumstances this can be challenging. But, what about those environments burdened with grief, financial worries, addiction, or COVID related stress? So, we reached out to community members and asked if they would like to sponsor students. Sponsors learn what the students interests are and then agree to send them care packages. Everything is done online. This gives the student a chance to receive something new they can spend time playing with for example; sidewalk chalk, a kite, craft kit, board game, art supplies, etc. This is meant to be a fun distraction for both the student and the sponsor and of course something for the student to look forward to!
Because we live in such a generous community, it didn’t take long to match students with sponsors! We are pleased to say we have 36 Red Raider students matched with 16 community sponsors.
