"5 Minutes for Life" is a partnership between the Ohio National Guard, Ohio High School Athletic Association and the Ohio State Highway Patrol to combat drug overdoses and demand amongst high School students
Congratulations to your high school for joining the new 5 Minutes for Life campaign.
As a teenager you are faced with many challenges and difficult decisions, like where to go to College, what sports to play, or choosing what courses to take. In today's days and age, it is an unfortunate reality that you will be faced with decisions involving alcohol and drug use. That is why the Ohio National Guard, Ohio High School Athletic Association and the Ohio State Highway Patrol have partnered together to bring you the 5 Minutes for Life campaign.
Did you know that 1 in 5 teens abuse prescription medications not prescribed to them? How about the fact that 43 percent of 12th graders report having used marijuana and underage drinkers account for more than 21% percent of all the alcohol consumed in Ohio? Or that 76% of Ohio students in grades 912 have consumed alcohol?
5 Minutes for Life is a new educational campaign to reduce, and ultimately eliminate, the demand for illegal drug use among high school students. The program Centers on Ohio State Troopers and Ohio National Guard recruiters taking 5 minutes with student-athletes to deliver a message of responsible decision-making, leadership and encouraging their peers to live a drug-free lifestyle.
A Trooper and a National Guard Career Counselor have visited the Boys Basketball Program in your school. They have received valuable information in what could have been a life changing 5 minutes. A member of the team will be reaching out and asking to take 5 minutes of your day to deliver this important message.
