LCS Makes Moves to Stabilize District Finances
In several orchestrated moves during its April Board meeting, the London City Board of Education took action in order to stabilize district finances for the coming years. Faced with the first year of deficit spending, the district reduced six positions and also planned reductions to district technology, maintenance, and instructional budgets. It is expected that the moves, along with increased revenues from district rentals and a new before and after care program, will save the district approximately $900,000 and steady district finances for the next two to three years. Most importantly because the personnel moves were made consistent with district enrollment trends, it is expected that the district will still be able to improve and expand district programs and services.

The following positions will be reduced for the 2019-2020 school year:
  • Two (2) building secretary positions effective August 1, 2019 due to staff reorganization and a shortage of funds;
  • Two (2) paraprofessional positions effective August 1, 2019 due to staff reorganization and a lack of work;
  • The LES Media Aide position effective August 1, 2019 due to staff reorganization and a shortage of funds;
  • One (1) elementary teacher position due to attrition.

Besides making these adjustments, the Board of Education also approved the first of two resolutions needed to place a renewal levy on the November 2019 ballot. This request is for a renewal of the existing 1% income tax and does not raise taxes.
