Dear London Families,

The Ohio Department of Education recently released its 2018 report cards for districts. This 31 page document outlines district performance on a variety of components including achievement, progress, gap closing, graduation rate, K-3 grade literacy, and prepared for success. The report card is based mostly on the performance of district students on state assessments administered in the spring of last year. While it is an important indicator for the progress of our district, it is also one measure of our district’s effectiveness.

Overall, London continued a three-year trend of improvement, although this year’s progress was modest, and the district still has many areas to improve. LCS can celebrate significant progress in terms of  over the last two years as our performance index, which measures student performance on all state tests, increased 2.6 points last year and another 0.6 points for the current report card. Although the state’s  measure scored London as a “F,” the district has actually made notable improvement in this area. If scored for only the past school year and not the three (3) year average reflected on the state report card, London would have met the growth expectation and received a “C.” Finally, it is important to note that London students continue to graduate at a high level, and the district’s most vulnerable students are making more than expected progress.

From an improvement perspective, the district still has an urgency to improve student growth across the district and across content areas. In addition, the district has an important need to improve student performance on college entrance exams like the ACT and SAT. You can learn more about our district’s report card performance here.

As our state superintendent stressed as this year’s report cards were released, our report card is one measure of the district’s performance. We are proud that our district enrollment continues to grow as more students and parents choose LCS as their school of choice. We are also pleased with the fact that out-of-school suspensions dropped 6% last year and that our students have more educational options such as London Unlimited, our blended learning program, and new STEM courses in each of our schools.  You can learn more about the district’s by improvement process by reviewing our Quality Profile.

We appreciate the great support we receive from our district parents and our community at large. Rest assured, we are not satisfied with our district report card and will continue to recognize and address all areas in order to continue to earn your support.

If you have any questions about our district performance or the performance of your child, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher, the building principal, or our central office.
