September 2018 Board of Education Regular Meeting Recap

The London City School District met in regular session on Tuesday, September 11th, 2018. The meeting began with recognition of the district support groups by Board President Darryl Brown. Mr. Brown applauded the dedication and efforts of the LHS Academic, Music, and Athletic Boosters as well as the Touchdown Club, and LES and LMS PTOs. District students and the experiences they are able to receive are enhanced because of the unwavering support of these groups.

During the school spotlight, LMS Principal Michael Belmont shared a short video highlighting the middle school’s new STEM programs. You can view the video here.

A few highlights of Board discussion included:

During his superintendent remarks, District Superintendent, Lou Kramer, updated the Board on the district’s process for annually recognizing district clubs and activities. The district’s safety plan was also discussed. LCS is currently updating its safety plan and will form a committee to support these efforts. Board member Donovan Cooper will add his expertise to this committee. Finally, anticipating a conflict, the district will move the upcoming, planned two-hour early release for Parent Teacher Conferences from Thursday, September September 27th to Wednesday, September 26th.

A few highlights of other Board action included:

  • Approved an annual contract with the Madison County Board of Developmental Disabilities;
  • Approved overnight trips for the high school FFA to travel to the National Convention, the 8th grade class trip to Washington D.C., and the 6th grade trip to Camp Nuhop;
  • Approved the aforementioned mentioned District Support Groups for the 2018-2019 school year;
  • Approved a resolution of intent not to provide Career-Technical Education in grades 7 and 8. The resolution is required annually by the Ohio Department of Education;

The next regular meeting of the Board of Education is scheduled for Tuesday, October 9th, 2018 in room 311 of London High School. Minutes of each meeting are approved the following month and then posted here.
