Recent Grads Help Educate Staff at November Professional Development Day
Don’t give up on us. The message was simple but powerful. With this statement, 2015 LHS graduate Ashley Wilhoit helped provide perspective for the LCS staff during the district’s November #londonpossible staff learning day. During her 10 minute talk, Ashley shared her high school challenges and post graduation triumphs. She, along with 2014 graduate Sarra Taylor, were asked to speak for a few minutes about the district’s core value of “dealing in hope.” Each young woman, provided a wonderful message on how LCS supported them during their high school years and how the district still holds some influence in their lives today.

The opening session was an effective prelude for a day of professional learning. Besides some team-building “minute to win it” contests, the staff also attended sessions on suicide prevention, effective reading strategies, Crisis Prevention and Intervention, iMovie creation, to name a few. During the day, district and building level teams also met to review goals and to ensure targeted strategies are being implemented with fidelity.

LCS holds several professional development days throughout the year. With an eye on school safety, the November professional development day is normally scheduled on election day, since London High School serves as a large polling location.
