London City Schools Applies for Purple Star Designation

The London City School District appreciates the sacrifices that our men and women in the military make everyday. Inspired by an Ohio of Education program and in an effort to increase resources and lessen the burden of service to these families, LCS has established a single point of contact for military families and launched a webpage as a repository with helpful resources. In addition, LCS is working to working to build awareness with staff to the challenges militarily impacted families may face and has updated our enrollment process to better serve these families.

The Board of Education kicked off these efforts by adopting a Resolution in Support of Military Children and Families at its April 2018 meeting. Board president Darryl Brown praised the adoption of the resolution. Brown, who currently serves as the Deputy Director and Senior Supervisory Attorney at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, mentioned that London is home to only a few active military families but is home to a number of reserve families. Brown noted the burdens of service can be overwhelming at times for families and noted district efforts are in line with the district’s goal of individuals having a “positive user experience” with our district.

The Ohio Department of Education launched the Purple Star program last year in an effort to recognize military friendly schools.
