June 2018 Board of Education Regular Meeting Recap

The June 2018 Regular Board of Education Meeting was highlighted by the hiring of Mr. Michael Browning as the next London High School Principal. Mr. Browning is no stranger to LHS as he has served as Assistant Principal for the school for the last two and a half years. During his time in the district, Michael also helped launch London Unlimited, the district’s hybrid learning program. Piloted during the 2016-2017 school year, and launched in earnest this past year, London Unlimited has grown to provide personalized learning options for 80 students or about 12% of the LHS student population. You can learn more about Mr. Browning’s appointment here.

A few highlights of Board discussion included:

  • Mr. Gummere, District Treasurer, updated the Board on district finances. Revenues received by the district are slightly higher than expected, while expenditures are tracking close to projections. It is likely the district will finish the fiscal year with revenues and expenditures evening out. This is not unexpected, but continues to indicate, LCS will begin deficit spending next fiscal year.

  • During his superintendent remarks, District Superintendent, Lou Kramer, shared with the Board ongoing partnership meetings between the Chamber of Commerce, Columbus State, and LCS. The three organizations are continuing to explore ways to provide higher educational opportunities and strengthen workforce development not only for students at LCS but also for residents in London and Madison County.

A few highlights of other Board action included:

  • Conducted a first reading for consolidated district staff and student handbooks.

  • Accepted the resignation of Chad Eisler, London High School Principal, who has accepted the position of Superintendent of Madison Plains Local Schools.

  • Accepted the resignation of Tabatha Wilburn, London Elementary Principal, and Stephanie Deisher, London Elementary Assistant Principal, who both accepted positions outside of the county.

  • Approved the hiring of Heather Golde (LHS Science) and Tim Spies (PBIS) for the 2018-2019 school year.

  • Approved the purchase of a 78 passenger bus.

  • Approved the annual contract with the Madison Champaign County ESC.

At the end of the meeting, the Board entered into executive session to discuss the employment, appointment, and compensation of personnel. After executive session, the Board voted to set administrative and exempted salaries for the 2018-2019 school year. The Board will meet for a special session to discuss strategic planning on Thursday, June 28th.

Minutes of each meeting are approved the following month and then posted here.
