On Monday, August 21st, 2017 the continental United States will experience a rare solar eclipse. Since this is such a significant event, it provides a wonderful teaching opportunity for our students. Teachers across the district will take some time during the day on Monday to share facts about the event and are welcome to live-stream the eclipse as part of classroom instruction. LCS plans a regular school day on Monday but will be reviewing eclipse viewing safety tips with students. We also plan to delay outside extracurricular activities until 4 pm. Parents and teachers can learn more about the eclipse including safety tips here:

After a successful pilot during the spring of the 2016-2017 school year, London Unlimited will expand as an educational option for all students at London City Schools this school year. London Unlimited is an educational program designed with the express purpose to provide hybrid and personalized educational options for students as part of an alternative school day. The program incorporates the district’s blended and virtual learning programs, College Credit Plus, and the district’s credit flexibility policy to individualize each student's educational program. London Unlimited is designed for all students including high achieving and those that are currently experiencing difficulty in their coursework. The district supports the implementation of this program by extending the school day to 4 pm daily. Students access the program at times and in a manner consistent with an approved student success plan.

London High School will be going One-To-One with technology at the start of the 2017-2018 school year as each student will be given a new Chromebook to use inside and outside the classroom for educational purposes. This one-to-one initiative is made possible after a successful pilot program at London Middle School last year that showed the advantages of students using the Chromebooks in the classroom and being able to take those devices home. Student use outside of the school district will still be monitored by district web-filters, allowing appropriate use of technology a staple of program. The nearly 600 devices will be handed out to the students during schedule pick-up for the high school with a goal of teachers and students to use the new technology the opening days of the school year.
